Robbery at jewellery shops on rise in city



Daring robbery at Jewellery shops in the city is increasing alarmingly creating insecurity and panic among the gold businessmen.

Despite taking various measures including special initiatives on various occasions by the law enforcers the criminal activities continue to show an upswing.

In last one month several incident of gold shop robbery occurred in the various part of the city but law enforcers could not catch anyone.

Detective Branch (DB) sources said that they caught many robbers but the problem is that they got bail from court and again doing robbery. After that they made new gang for robbery and changed their strategies in robbery.

They have their own drivers, CNG run three-wheelers, information gather team and operations team, they said. Sometimes DB officials became surprised to watch their various strategies.

DB sources said that some new groups emerges in the capital including Abu Hanif and Taher group, Yakub group, Jewel group, Faruk and Milon group, Rana and Ali group, Liton and Babul group, Sohag and Dada Billal group. Around 300 members are active in those groups.

Robbery prevention team’s (north) Senior Assistant Commissioner of DB police Mohammad Sulaiman, said we catch many group several times but they got bail and again doing the same things.

He said, “It is too tough to catch a gang but it hurt a lot while they got out on bail and again doing robbery.

“After they caught in our hand they adopted different strategies in their operations,” he added.

He said that, before any robbery they fixed their target and observed the area for a long and after that they completed their operations.

He also said after any operation they leaved the capital and hide in Gazipur, Ashulia, Uttara and Turag area.

Shohag group, Roni group, Selim gropu, Saiful group, Ramzan group, Dada Billal group and Tarek group are doing robbery in the capital, he added.

On Monday, a daring robbery occurred in city’s Rampura area where robber’s hostage night guards of the area in a gunpoint and looted 60 tolas of gold by breaking the key lock of the gold shop.

Delwar Hossain, officer in charge of Rampura police station said that this is not robbery, it is burglary. He also said that burglar stealing 30 to 40 tolas of gold by breaking the lock of the shop. A burglary case was filed with Rampura police station is this regard, he added.

On January 24, a total of 161 tolas of gold ornaments were looted in a robbery at a jewellery shop of Mirpur area in the city in the early hours of Wednesday. The incident took place at Mamata Tayeba Jewellers shop located on the ground floor of Janakalyan Samity Market at Mirpur-13 under Kafrul police station.

On January 13, Burglars in a daring break-in looted some 1,250 tolas of gold ornaments from a jewellery shop at Paltan Supermarket in the capital on Thursday night. No one was arrested regarding the robbery till now.

The daring burglary was committed at Sunflower Jewellery Shop on the ground floor of the market sometime on Thursday night, the sources said. Later, DB police arrested one and seized 65 tolas of gold.
