Noted journo Fayez Ahmed no more

Noted journalist and litterateur Fayez Ahmed died of old-age complications at a city Hospital in the early hours of Monday at the age of 84.

Fayez Ahmed was felling severe pain on his chest at around 4:30am and then he was rushed to Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital where doctors declared him dead at 5:30am, said Mujahidul Islam Selim, general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh.

Politicians and different socio-cultural organisations expressed deep shock at the death of Fayez Ahmed.

As par his wish his eyes were donated to Sandhani National Eye Donation Society while his body was donated to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital.

At first, the body of Fayez Ahmed was taken to Shilpangan Art Gallery for his well-wishers at around 9:00am.

After that it was taken to Jatiya Press Club at around 11:30am where his namaz-e-janaza was held.

Later, the body was taken to Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University at around 12:25pm and Communist Party office at around 1:40pm to let people show their last respect to the writer.

Finally, his body was donated to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital as per his wish at around 5:00pm.

Ashsan Habib Lavlu of CPB and Farhana Mithu, niece of Fayez Ahmed, handed over the body to Bangladesh Medical College Hospital while Dr M A Rashid, head of anatomy department, took the body on be half of BMCH.

Fayez Ahmed was born at Basaildog village of Bikrampur in Munshiganj on May 2, 1928, son of Golam Mostofa Chowdhury.

In 1947 he joined in Communist Party while he played an active role in Swadhikar Andolon and 1971’s Liberation War.

He was the founder chief editor and managing director of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), was convenor of Jatiyo Kabota Utsab for five times and founder president of Sammilito Sanskritik Jote.

Beside his journalism and politics, he was also a poet. He wrote around 100 books. Of the 100 around 60 books was written especially for the Children -teenager.

He was awarded Ekushey Padak and Bangla Academy and Shishu Academy awards for his outstanding contribution in literature.

Various political parties, organizations and people from all walks of life showed their last respect while the body was kept in Shilpangan Art Gallery, Jatiya Press Club, Aparajeyo Bangla of Dhaka University and Communist Party office.

Mahbubul Alam Hanif, AL joint general secretary, said he played a vital role in anti-autocratic movement of 1990 and was a great organiser.

While the whole nation was in crisis with the trail of war crime, his leaving on that time is an irreplaceable loss, he added.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that he was a great journalist and litterateur for our country. “It is an irreplaceable loss for us to lose Fayez Ahmed” he added.

Sadek Hossain Khoka, former Mayor of Dhaka City, said that till the last day of his life he stands still on his ideology.

Writer-journalist Shahriar Kabir, said he led all anti-fundamentalism movement in our country. He also said that with the death of Fayez Ahmed we lost one of our guardians which are a great loss for us.

Noted poet and columnist Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury said that “I believed that the ideology of Fayez Ahmed will inspire the nation forever.”

Mujahidul Islam Selim, general secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh, said he made our literature rich with his writing.

He also said for he was the main initiator of anti autocratic movement in 1990 and for his initiative the movement became successful.

President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed their deep shock at the death of country’s noted litterateur Fayez Ahmed

In a message of condolence, the prime minister recalled his contribution to journalism and democratic movements, particularly during the time of every national crisis.

The president and the prime minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed their deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Opposition leader Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at the death of journalist Fayez Ahmed.

Various political parties, organizations, peoples and others also expressed their profound shock at the death of veteran litterateur and journalist Fayez Ahmed.
